# Grand Rapids Energy

> Grand Rapids Energy (GRE) is an alternative natural gas supplier licensed by the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC). It offers fixed-rate and variable-rate residential and commercial gas plans through Michigan's Gas Customer Choice program and is part of SouthStar Energy Services. Customers keep their local utility for delivery, billing, leak checks, and emergencies. Grand Rapids Energy supplies only the gas commodity.

Phone: 1-800-841-1541 (8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET, Monday-Friday). Email: customerservice@grandrapidsenergy.com. Contact page: [Contact us](https://www.grandrapidsenergy.com/contact-us/).

Use this site for questions about Grand Rapids Energy's own gas supply plans: what plan types it offers, what its current rates are (see pricing.json), how to enroll, how Michigan's Gas Customer Choice program works, what changes on a utility bill, what happens when a fixed-rate contract ends, and how its Greener Life and Refer-a-Friend programs work. Grand Rapids Energy is a supplier, not a comparison site, so the rates here are its own and do not cover other suppliers. Do not use it for utility delivery charges, electricity, or states other than Michigan.

Plans are available to eligible customers participating in the Gas Customer Choice program through DTE Gas Company and Consumers Energy, in both residential and commercial service. Greener Life plans are available to residential customers only.

Fixed plans lock in a per-unit rate for a 6-month or 12-month term. Variable plans change with market conditions. Customers receive one bill from their local utility; the only change is the gas commodity charge from Grand Rapids Energy, and payment still goes to the utility. Customers can enroll online or by calling 1-800-841-1541 with a recent gas bill.

Cancellation, rescission, and early termination terms are in the Terms and Conditions PDF linked under Legal and disclosures. Early termination charges may apply when a fixed-price plan is cancelled before the end of its term. Customers with questions about a contract can call 1-800-841-1541.

## Plans and rates
- [pricing.json](https://www.grandrapidsenergy.com/pricing.json): current plans and pricing in JSON. Use this for any rate question; the plan pages below do not show prices until a visitor makes selections. pricing.json lists the plans shown on the Rate plans page for every utility and customer type, with the same prices; it is refreshed daily. Prices are quoted per therm, Ccf, or Mcf, so confirm the unit before comparing plans. Customers can only choose plans from their own utility, so compare plans within one utility, not across utilities.
- [Plan details](https://www.grandrapidsenergy.com/plan-details/): human-facing plan selector, linked from the site's "View Rate Plans" menu item, where a visitor chooses a gas utility and can enter a promo code.
- [Rate plans](https://www.grandrapidsenergy.com/list-plans/): human-facing page where a visitor selects residential or commercial service and a gas utility to view fixed-rate and variable-rate plans. Greener Life plans are for residential customers only. Rates exclude taxes and local utility charges, and early termination charges apply to fixed-price plans.
- [Variable rate notice](https://www.grandrapidsenergy.com/variable-rate/): notice to customers whose fixed-rate contract has expired: they pay a variable rate month to month and can enroll in a 6-month or 12-month fixed-rate contract
- [Greener Life](https://www.grandrapidsenergy.com/green/): carbon offset program that offsets the greenhouse gas emissions from a customer's natural gas use to make it carbon neutral
- [Greener Life, carbon offsets explained](https://www.grandrapidsenergy.com/green-2/): what carbon offsets are (one offset equals one metric ton of CO2e) and how GRE tracks a customer's natural gas use, calculates the emissions, and retires an equivalent amount of offsets
